I.K. Gyasi (Ibrahim Kwaku Gyasi), a renowned Ghanaian educator and former principal of T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (AMASS) in Kumasi, died at the age of 87.

He was a prolific newspaper columnist, writing the “Bluntly Speaking” column for The Chronicle for nearly 20 years before retiring in August 2016 at the age of 80 after five decades in the media.

His essays provided incisive insights into education and national issues.

He served as headmaster of his alma mater, T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, from 1990 to 1998, and was hailed as the first former student to hold the role.

He devoted most of his life to the school, teaching English and guiding successive generations of pupils.

In addition, I.K. Gyasi wrote instructional books and tutored English. In 2023, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) recognised him as an honorary member in recognition of his achievements to journalism.

His passing, which signalled the end of a distinguished career in media and education, was announced by the Amass 1979 Secretariat.
