The newly established 15-member Governing Board of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has been tasked by Interior Minister Hon. Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed with fighting illegal drug trafficking in Ghana.

Hon. Muntaka emphasized that illegal drug trafficking is a multinational organized crime that has terrible effects on society, particularly on young people, and knows no boundaries.

The establishment of the Board, he said, shows the government’s dedication to transparency, competence, and professionalism in the war on illegal drugs.

In order to make decisions that uphold the greatest standards of moral behavior, the Minister advised the Board members to approach their responsibilities with courage, humility, and integrity.

He gave the Chairman the responsibility of encouraging excellence and fostering productive board member participation.

The Commission will increase public education about the harmful effects of consuming illegal substances, according to NACOC Board Chairman COP (Rtd.) Bright Oduro, who also promised that the Commission will carefully carry out its tasks in order to fulfill its mandate.
