It was Bugri Naabu, the former Northern regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who brought Superintendent George Asare to his office, according to Bugri Naabu, a senior police official accused of being involved in a plot to have Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare removed.
During his appearance before the committee charged with looking into the leaked audio, Supt. Asare said that Bugri Naabu had made up some of the comments that had been ascribed to him.
He added that after learning the government was looking for a new IGP and asking him for recommendations, he had been invited to visit Mr. Naabu’s office by Mr. Naabu.
Supt. Asare asserted that he made three recommendations, including those for Christian Tetteh Yuhuno, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, and COP Alex Mensah.
The third witness to testify before the committee is Supt. Asare. The primary witness, Bugri Naabu, has already been interrogated.
The committee has also questioned Commissioner George Mensah and Supt. Emmanuel Gyebi, two important witnesses. The probe intends to provide further information about the purported IGP ouster plot.
