The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) has partnered with Digital Policy Alert and the St. Gallen Endowment for Prosperity through Trade to strengthen Ghana’s digital governance, regulatory coordination and participation in global digital trade.
The partnership was highlighted at a high-level stakeholder workshop held in Accra, bringing together representatives from government ministries and agencies, academia, the private sector, civil society organisations and development partners.
Opening the workshop on behalf of the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, the Director of the Digital Technology Directorate, Bishop Dr. Samuel Antwi-Gyekyi, welcomed participants and described the engagement as timely.
He said Ghana is pursuing an ambitious digital transformation agenda focused on key initiatives including the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, stronger data governance, the One Million Coders Programme and the country’s growing role in digital governance across Africa.
According to him, Ghana’s digital transformation requires collaboration between government, businesses, technology entrepreneurs, academic institutions and development partners. Such partnerships, he noted, are critical to converting digital policies into employment opportunities, technological innovation and sustainable economic growth.
Bishop Dr. Antwi-Gyekyi also welcomed Digital Policy Alert’s expansion into Ghana, noting that its digital policy intelligence platform and AI-assisted regulatory analysis tools could support evidence-based policymaking and improve regulatory coordination.
He said the tools would also help Ghana participate more effectively in regional and international digital trade discussions, including engagements under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Protocol on Digital Trade and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The Accra workshop offered stakeholders practical knowledge on monitoring global digital policy developments, comparing Ghana’s digital regulatory framework with international best practices and using technology to improve public policy development.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to Digital Policy Alert, the St. Gallen Endowment for Prosperity through Trade and other stakeholders for supporting the initiative.
MoCDTI reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Ghana’s digital economy through effective digital regulation, innovation, data governance and strategic international partnerships.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to Ghana’s efforts to build a resilient, inclusive and globally competitive digital economy while creating new opportunities for technology-driven businesses, digital jobs and international trade.
