John Agyekum Kufuor, the former president of Ghana, has called for the punishment of individuals who committed crimes and denounced the damaging conduct of some demonstrators during the most recent Democracy Hub demonstration in Accra.

Kufuor underlined the significance of striking a balance between citizens’ rights to demonstrate and accountability for illegal activity in an interview with Accra-based Angel FM.

Roadblocks and property damage plagued the Accra-based Democracy Hub protests, which also prompted solidarity marches in New York.

The former president Kufuor emphasized that assaulting law enforcement officials and causing property damage are intolerable and ought to be dealt with legally.

Kufuor declared, “If you attack a police officer or take away their car key, you must face the law or be punished. We can’t let them go scot-free,”

In addition, Kufuor called for a coordinated response to galamsey, stressing the disastrous effects it has on Ghana’s water resources and people’s quality of life.

He underlined that in order to preserve Ghana’s natural heritage, which includes its forests, waterways, and weather patterns, a multipronged strategy is required.
