The policies of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have been praised by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who has called them essential to Ghana’s progress.

Speaking at a small gathering in Abuakwa South yesterday, Wednesday, Mr. Kufuor urged people to back Dr. Bawumia, claiming that his policies and vision are designed to lessen suffering and promote advancement.

“I have been paying attention. Bawumia’s policies, particularly his focus on training the youth in entrepreneurial and digital skills, are good. If you don’t want this, what do you want? So I plead with you, he is not just coming for the NPP but for the whole country,” he said.

“He is coming for an inclusive government. His policies will alleviate the suffering of Ghanaians. I have listened to all those talking about their policies, but I haven’t seen anyone with policies as good as Bawumia’s.” he stated.

Mr. Kufuor praised Dr. Bawumia’s efforts to alleviate Ghanaians’ suffering and emphasized his commitment to inclusive administration.

The former president’s comments were made in the midst of criticism for his support of Dr. Bawumia. Movement for Change flagbearer Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen was among those who urged him to refrain from making public endorsements.

Opponents contended that Mr. Kufuor had to remain impartial on election-related issues due to his standing as a statesman.

During a ceremony at the Ofori Panin Palace in the Abuakwa South constituency, Mr. Kufuor defiantly maintained his stance while joined by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the NPP.

He asked Ghanaians to back the NPP in the 2024 elections and restated his faith in Dr. Bawumia’s capacity for leadership.

“I am facing criticism for voicing my opinions on national matters due to my position as a statesman. Experience and wisdom are often associated with age,”

“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is my political affiliation, and it was through this party that I attained the presidency. Additionally, my child, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been elected through the party.

“During my administration, he was a member of the Bank of Ghana team and demonstrated remarkable performance during a challenging period when Ghana was in financial distress. Their efforts were instrumental in revitalizing the economy at that time.” Mr. Kufuor remarked.

Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy has benefited greatly from Mr. Kufuor’s endorsement, which strengthens the NPP’s narrative of continuity and advancement as the nation prepares to vote in 2024.
