The Palace of the Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Council in Abene was attacked at 4 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 25, by armed men disguised in police uniforms and claiming to be from National Security.
Residents reported hearing gunshots within the palace prior to the purported kidnapping of Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, who was present at the time of the attack.
During the attack, the Kwahuhene’s official Toyota Land Cruiser was also confiscated. The tracking information suggests that the car is on its way to Accra.
The purpose of the kidnapping and the raid is still unknown. The Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have both declared that they were unaware of any activities carried out by the individuals posing as national security agents.
According to sources, the incident has increased locals’ dread in light of the ongoing tensions surrounding the Kwahu Chieftaincy conflicts.
Investigations into the event are apparently under progress, although authorities have not yet released any statements.
