From yesterday, Friday, July 7, 2023 at midnight until Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) in Accra, Ghana, will be temporarily closed.

To accommodate the park’s impending commercial operations, this shutdown is required. The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park’s acting director, Mr. Edward Quao, issued a formal statement on July 7 announcing the closure.

The park’s dedication to provide an extraordinary experience that exceeds the expectations of both the local community and guests was reaffirmed by the acting director, who apologized for any inconveniences that may have been caused.

The bones of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah, are kept in a historical institution that is located on the Accra polo fields where Ghana’s independence was announced. The park was recently renovated for $3.5 million, and on July 4, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo officially opened it.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized during the opening ceremony that the renovated park is anticipated to draw about one million local and foreign visitors per year.

He also emphasized the government’s commitment to spending money on the tourism industry in order to boost the economy.
