The official establishment of the Ashanti Regional Lands Commission Board on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, was a major step toward enhancing land governance and administration in the area.

During his remarks, Hon. Yusif Sulemana, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, tasked the Board with focusing on revenue mobilization, effective land service delivery, and preventing illicit mining activities (“galamsey”).

Effective land management requires close cooperation between the Commission and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), he underlined.

Hon. Sulemana encouraged the Board to act urgently to combat the threat of illegal mining, expressing worry over its catastrophic effects on farmlands and water bodies.

He emphasized that effective land administration is essential for national growth and better service delivery to the public and customary land sectors, and he gave the Board the assurance that the government would fully support them.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that land development must be in line with national development goals and emphasized the Commission’s responsibility in encouraging sustainable land management, responsible land use, and ecosystem preservation.

In an effort to improve tenure security and draw in local investment, he also revealed plans to extend Land Title Registration outside of Greater Kumasi.

He urged traditional landowners to allow the government and private companies to use their property in order to spur growth.

He also urged the Board to support the government’s larger agenda by putting strong revenue collection methods into place.

The inauguration, according to Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, was a significant step toward social harmony, economic progress, and efficient land government.
