President John Dramani Mahama has formally broken ground for the development of a poultry, meat, and feed processing factory in Bechem, Ahafo Region.
This is part of the government’s main poultry revitalization effort, the Nkoko Nketenketen Project.
The facility, which will slaughter 3,000 birds every day, will take 12 months to complete.
President Mahama stated that the Bechem Poultry, Meat, and Feed Processing Facility was designed as a cutting-edge agro-industrial hub.
He stated that the entire ecosystem would fuel the chicken value chain, and that the facility would contain a sophisticated feed processing plant to provide high-quality, low-cost feed, as well as a sanitary meat processing unit capable of meeting both domestic and export standards.

Cold storage, dry warehouses to protect product quality and minimize losses, dormitories and residential facilities to support long-term training, and a training academy for young people, young farmers, and technical personnel would all be included.
The facility, according to the President, is one of a number of anchor projects intended to restore Ghana’s competitiveness in the livestock and poultry sectors.
“This is not merely an industrial plant; it’s a center of excellence for poultry development, innovation, research and agribusiness incubation,” he stated. “It will serve as a magnet for private sector investment and a foundation for rural industrialization.”
President Mahama stated that similar processing plants were planned in other parts of the country to handle the increasing poultry production arising from the Nkoko Nketenketen Project.
Mr Eric Opoku, Minister of Food and Agriculture, stated that the facility will include a component that would convert industry waste into feed for fisheries and poultry, as well as fertilizer for farmers.
