Former President John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led a team to speak with members of the Trades Union Congress of Ghana’s executive committee on Tuesday.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss with organized labor and Ghanaians at large some of the thoughtful policy changes he will spearhead for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration in an effort to revive the country’s faltering economy.

Mahama claims that the “bad Ghanaian economy” is to blame for the pressures of inflation that have caused many Ghanaians—especially workers—to lose purchasing power.

Many people, he claimed, “have their inadequate income eroded by inflationary pressures.”

The goal of such measures, he continued, was to halt Ghana’s economy from declining sharply, turn it around, and stabilize it. He had been articulating these plans for the past few years in hopes of an NDC government in the future.

In addition, Mr. Mahama stated that he has discussed institutional reforms and governance in several of his most recent public appearances, “to ensure that our country is reset and built into the Ghana we all want.”

According to him, the NDC government will not “pass off as policies” slogans used by propagandists.

“We have much to learn as a country from the disaster that has unfolded before our very eyes when a sections of our population became so enameled with empty slogan and acronyms,” he said.

An additional statement from the former president Mahama stated that the NDC “will focus on substantial government issues to get the job done in no thrills and no-frills manner.”

He stated that his government will implement practical policies that will have a good effect on the nation’s economy.
