The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership has been warned by Mussa Dankwa, Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, not to remove Alexander Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader based only on his political decisions made during the party’s presidential primary.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr. Danquah made the case that performance, not party affiliation, should be the sole factor used to determine changes in Parliament’s leadership.

“I don’t think Afenyo should be changed as Minority Leader. If at all there is going to be a reshuffle, it should not be based on who he supported in the NPP primaries but on his performance,” he said.

He also stressed that if there are issues with Afenyo-Markin’s leadership, he should be given time to change his ways and reposition himself.

“At the very least, he should be given some time,” Mussa Dankwa added.

However, Mr. Dankwa recommended the Minority Leader to do an honest self-assessment, emphasising that opinions of his leadership style must be addressed.

“Afenyo-Markin himself should assess his performance very well and restructure his strategies, both to correct wrong perceptions formed against him and to strengthen his positive attributes,” he said.

In terms of broader party dynamics, Dankwa emphasised that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, must prioritise the larger election battle ahead above internal conflicts.

“Bawumia knows there is a bigger fight ahead, and he does not need to engineer smaller ones in his backyard,” he reiterated.

In conclusion, he urged party members to accept attempts at reconciliation as critical to the party’s continued existence and future prosperity.

Mussa Dankwa stated, “Every move aimed at reconciling the party should be welcomed so that the party can stand united.”
