A teenage Yendi girl in Ghana’s Northern Region contracted HIV and TB after being defiled by a 40-year-old male.
The suspect called it a “mistake” and acknowledged to the crime, telling the girl’s parents. As he awaits trial, he has been remanded in detention. On August 24, 2023, he must reappear in court.
The victim’s health has suffered as a result of the incident in January.
The victim’s parents told the media that the accused had threatened to kill her if she revealed what had happened to anyone, or else she would die.
They learned about it only after she continued to get sick and things reached a crisis point with frequent bleeding and other issues that required numerous lab tests.
