The opposition will not grant President John Mahama a third term, according to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of concealing a “third term agenda” behind Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the MP for Effutu, stated on the floor of Parliament that while the budget presentation was excellent on paper, it did not accurately depict the situation of the economy for average Ghanaians.
“Third term? “You want a third term, but you are not performing,” he remarked.
“Ato Forson, you are here presenting a budget and beneath it is a third term agenda where you’re going to spend money for people to be calling for a third term. We’re watching you with eagle eyes,” he added.
He declared that Ghanaians would not elect President John Mahama to another term because he and his administration had terribly let the people down.
“You won’t have a third term, today nor tomorrow,” he underlined.
Additionally, Mr. Afenyo-Markin attacked the NDC, claiming that they are making Ghanaians’ situation worse.
He mentioned some social initiatives that the former Akufo-Addo administration had planned but that the current Mahama administration had either abandoned or discontinued.
“We are not interested in the books. We are interested in the economy in our pockets. People are suffering. People need jobs,” he yelled.
He mentioned the revocation of the NPP’s One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative, layoff of public sector personnel, and increased electricity tariffs. he novels don’t pique our curiosity.
