Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) are not receiving the appropriate benefits from their sanitation contracts with private waste management business Zoomlion, according to Mr. James Klutse Avedzi, the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
He has therefore asked them not to extend their contracts with the business. The Ketu North MP emphasized during a public accounts committee meeting in Ho that parliament had approved the choice not to extend the contract with the waste management company.
This warning was issued as a result of the Fanteakwa South Municipal Assembly’s failure to provide the required paperwork for the extension of its contract with Zoomlion.
Considering that many Assemblies lack clarity in their contractual conditions with the corporation, the committee has also advised a complete assessment of the current agreements with Zoomlion.
According to Mr. Avedzi, the contract contains a provision that permits automatic renewal unless the assembly notifies the other party of its desire not to extend it. In light of this, I strongly advise you to review your contract documents, make note of that condition, and notify Zoomlion that you will not renew the agreement when it expires because you are simply wasting money.
The timing of Mr. Avedzi’s warning coincides with growing worries about the efficiency and openness of Zoomlion’s contracts with MMDAs.
