The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, convened a meeting with the Greater Accra Regional and District Police Commanders and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs at the Ministry of the Interior to address ongoing chieftaincy disputes and issues related to the Homowo festival that have threatened peace in the region.
Hon. Muntaka emphasized that “crime must be treated as crime” and urged the Regional and District Police Commanders to take a zero-tolerance stance against crime.
In order to avoid the recurrence of chieftaincy issues and Homowo-related riots that have disturbed the calm in some areas of the region, he asked the police to be firm and determined.
“The right things must be done, and all related matters must face prosecution to uphold justice,” the Minister said, emphasizing the importance of prosecuting criminals quickly in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In order to settle conflicts and preserve stability, the Minister further emphasized the value of cooperation and urged the Ghana Police Service to keep up its strong cooperation with the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.
He emphasized how important traditional leaders are to promoting peace and asked both sides to continue working together to address the underlying roots of the problems.
Mr. Enoch Addo, the Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, thanked the Minister for his proactive involvement and dedication to finding solutions to the region’s problems.
He gave the Minister his word that the Ghana Police Service and the House of Chiefs will collaborate to advance peace and aid initiatives aimed at resolving issues pertaining to Homowo and chieftaincy.
