In a recent search on his home, National Security agents allegedly stole money and valuables from Dr. Ernest Addison, the former governor of the Bank of Ghana, according to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
When the agents broke into Dr. Addison’s house on March 19, 2025, they allegedly stole jewelry and an unspecified sum of money from his wife, according to Afenyo-Markin.
The National Security Secretariat’s Director of Special Operations, Richard Jakpa, is said to have been in charge of the raid, which happened near Roman Ridge in Accra.
Before conducting a search of the home, the heavily armed agents, some of whom were armed with AK-47 rifles and wore headgear, allegedly turned off CCTV cameras.
Speaking at a press conference in Parliament, Afenyo-Markin denounced the operation, calling it a flagrant instance of theft and intimidation carried out by the state.
He called for responsibility from John Mahama’s government and requested an immediate probe into the matter.
“It is unacceptable that National Security operatives, under the guise of conducting a search, would invade the privacy of a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, steal his money, and take his wife’s jewelry,” Afenyo-Markin said.
