The National Identification Authority (NIA) has marked its 20th anniversary with a nationwide thanksgiving and public education campaign focused on the importance of legal identity, the Ghana Card and national identification services.
As part of activities marking the NIA’s 20th Anniversary and Identity Day, the Authority on Sunday, September 6, 2026, joined churches across Ghana to give thanks to God for His guidance and faithfulness throughout two decades of service.
The anniversary activities also provided an opportunity for the NIA to educate members of the public on the importance of having a legal identity, the uses of the Ghana Card, and the mandate and services provided by the National Identification Authority.
NIA Marks Anniversary in Accra
In Accra, the public education and thanksgiving programme was held at the Assembly of God Ringway Gospel Church.
The engagement was led by the two Deputy Executive Secretaries of the NIA on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Mr. Wisdom Kwaku Deku.
Officials used the occasion to engage congregants on the importance of national identification and how the Ghana Card serves as a key document for establishing an individual’s legal identity.
NIA Takes Identity Education Nationwide
The anniversary programme was not limited to Accra. Similar church sensitisation activities were organised across the country through the NIA’s Regional Offices.
The programmes were led by Regional Registration Officers, who combined thanksgiving activities with public education on identity registration, the Ghana Card and NIA services.
The nationwide engagements formed part of the Authority’s broader efforts to increase public awareness of the importance of legal identity and Ghana’s national identification system.
