As a canoe and its nine crew members vanished in rough seas, fishermen in Takoradi, a coastal district in the Western region, are living in fear.

On June 27, 2023, the crew members departed, but they haven’t been seen since.

The fisherman reportedly lost contact with their teammates soon after heading out to sea. Families and friends of the nine crew members are concerned because none of them have been located.

The boat’s owner, Kwame Tawiah, told the reporters that the crew had left the Ngyirasia fishing harbor for the Half Assini region but hadn’t come back. He continued by saying they had contacted the police for help and were hopeful the team would show up shortly.

Mr. Tawiah further disclosed that on the morning of July 7, the crew that went missing made a quick phone contact to him to say they were all still alive but the boat was out of fuel. However, their phone quickly rang, and it is currently unknown where they are.

MTN has been notified to assist in locating the missing crew members, and six additional boats have been despatched to search for them. The situation is still tense, and the fishermen are still missing.
