Dominic Nitiwul, Ghana’s minister of defense, has advised the populace to reject claims that the Jubilee House is being used by the government to hire and train mercenaries in order to sabotage the general elections in 2024.

He stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is resolved to turning over on January 7, 2025, to a lawfully elected President.

He asserts that there is no such activity going on at the presidency and that no one has been brought in for training by the government to Jubilee House.

He emphasized that the presidency is a public location and urged the journalists to go there and speak with any employee, even the security guards.

“You’ll be told there is nothing like it and that people should reject it because it is the Minority in Parliament’s idea,”

We have not done so and do not intend to do so.

On Tuesday, November 8, the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee, Mr. James Agalga, spoke during a press conference held by the Parliamentary Minority. The Defence Minister was replying to his remarks.

Mr. Agalga demanded an urgent independent investigation into the allegation due to its seriousness, relying on a broadcast by Ghanaian journalist Kelvin Taylor who claimed mercenaries are being recruited and trained at the seat of government by one DCOP Asare to cause chaos and mayhem in the nation and blame the political opposition.

This, he claimed, was in retrospect due to the government’s involvement in the by-election violence in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, when state-sponsored armed thugs wreaked mayhem.

During the holding of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections, he remarked, “Kelvin Taylor’s expose further draws into sharp focus the deployment of hoodlums within the security forces who shot and killed eight innocent Ghanaians without any basis whatsoever.”

“At this time, not even a single person has been brought to justice for the alleged murders.”

The officer in charge of the mercenaries’ training at the Jubilee House has been identified as DCOP Asare.

The Minority urged President Akufo-Addo to act quickly to address the numerous human security issues that Ghanaians are currently facing as a result of his poor economic management in order to preserve the Fourth Republican Constitution Order that he inherited from the four presidents who came before him.

Defence Minister Nitiwul refuted the accusation, saying the NPP adheres more closely to the principles of democracy than the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party of opposition.

He asserted that the NPP tradition was created by democratically-minded individuals, adding, “So we will be the last to stomp against democracy.”

“We are the last to put together a gang. You combine the two sides to see who is best at controlling thugs. No gang planning will take place today or tomorrow.

We don’t even know how to organize thugs; it’s not in our blood. Therefore, we are unable to even organize them, and we have no plans to do so, he said.

Mr. Nitiwul swore that as defense minister, he would not permit anyone to bring goons into the Jubilee House.

He charged Kelvin Taylor with practicing “yellow journalism,” expressed disbelief that the Minority even bought into his claims, and advised Ghanaians not to take him seriously.

Ambrose Dery, the interior minister, responded to the Minority’s allegations of recruiting manipulation into the security forces by asserting that the Ghana Police Service has developed into a very professional organization as a result of the government’s retooling and retraining of officers.

He claimed that government appointees have been arrested by the police for a variety of offenses and taken through the proper channels as proof that police personnel are acting more professionally in the performance of their responsibilities.

The Interior Minister acknowledged that DCOP Asare works as security at Jubilee House but insisted that there is no evidence to support the claim.

He promised that policemen will soon be supplied with body cameras to film every every move in order to ensure that their whereabouts is known at all relevant times as part of the government commitment to improve police work.
