Ghana and Norway signed a Political Consultations Agreement to deepen their long-standing bilateral ties on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Hon. Åsmund Grøver Aukrust, Minister of International Development for Norway, signed the agreement.

Both nations’ commitment to expanding cooperation in vital areas such as oil and gas, trade facilitation, agribusiness, education, artificial intelligence, maritime security, the blue economy, and intelligence sharing was reiterated during the talks.

The two parties also discussed perspectives on regional security challenges in the Sahel and West Africa. Ghana underlined how urgent it is to revive the Accra Initiative and urged foreign partners to supplement monetary donations with equipment, technical assistance, and more extensive multilateral involvement.

On the other hand, Norway reiterated its ongoing assistance, specifically through training and research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

Both delegations pledged to offer combined global leadership as Co-Chairs of the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy at the end of the engagement.

With shared principles and a shared goal for peace, prosperity, and sustainability, this milestone agreement establishes a solid platform for a deeper, more strategic collaboration between Ghana and Norway.
