The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for a parliamentary investigation into alleged visa fraud linked to arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging Parliament to summon Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to explain their involvement.

The opposition party is demanding a transparent public inquiry, the release of all relevant agreements and official correspondence, and a firm deadline for completing investigations into the controversy.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 15, 2026, NPP Director of Communications Dennis Miracles Aboagye called on Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee to establish the facts surrounding the World Cup travel arrangements and identify individuals who may be responsible.

Aboagye said Parliament must invite the Sports and Recreation Minister and the GTA Chief Executive Officer to answer questions before the House and the Youth and Sports Committee to ensure transparency and accountability.

According to the NPP communications director, a parliamentary probe would help restore confidence among Ghana’s international partners and clarify whether any alleged fraudulent activities were authorised or supported by state institutions.

He stressed that anyone found responsible for wrongdoing must be held accountable in accordance with the law.

NPP Calls for Foreign Affairs Ministry to Explain US and Canada Engagements

The NPP has also urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide details of its engagements with the United States and Canadian embassies concerning the alleged 2026 World Cup visa controversy.

The party wants the ministry to explain the measures being taken to protect Ghanaian travellers from potential immigration, visa or travel-related consequences arising from the allegations.

It is also demanding the publication of all documents connected to the arrangements, including the memorandum of understanding between the National Sports Authority (NSA) and Tribe Culture FEST, a supplementary agreement, and the agreement between the Ghana Tourism Authority and the company.

Other documents the party wants disclosed include lists submitted to the US and Canadian embassies, as well as a letter issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 28, 2026.

The NPP believes releasing these records would help establish how the arrangements were organised, identify the parties involved and determine whether proper procedures were followed.

NPP Demands Refunds for Ghanaians Affected by Visa Allegations

The opposition party has expressed concern about reports that some individuals paid money to the Ghana Tourism Authority or the National Sports Authority for visa processing and travel assistance associated with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Aboagye called on the government to protect affected applicants, arguing that many ordinary Ghanaians may have relied on the credibility of the public institutions involved when making payments.

He urged the authorities to encourage affected individuals to come forward without fear and ensure that any money recovered is returned to those who paid for the services.

The party maintains that protecting potentially affected applicants should be a priority while investigations into the alleged visa fraud continue.

NPP Wants Clear Timeline for World Cup Visa Investigation

The NPP has further called on the relevant authorities to establish a definite timeline for completing the investigation and make the findings available to the public.

Aboagye warned that prolonged delays without meaningful updates could fuel public suspicion and raise questions about whether efforts were being made to conceal information.

The party insists that a transparent investigation is necessary to clarify the circumstances surrounding the Ghana 2026 World Cup travel arrangements, protect the interests of affected citizens and safeguard the country’s international reputation.

The controversy has intensified calls for greater accountability from public institutions involved in international sports travel arrangements, with the NPP urging the government and Parliament to ensure that all outstanding questions are addressed.
