The brutality that the police inflicted on some teenagers in Daboya Mankarigu, in the North Gonja District, has shocked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savannah Region.

This came after a deadlock in the region a few weeks prior.

The regional party headed by Chairam Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana claims that the raid and arrest are unwelcome, totally unnecessary, and a blow to all the advancements made since the previous event.

The party cautioned that the already difficult situation in the neighborhood has actually worsened as a result of police brutality.

The party said in a statement that the respected Chiefs in the region, including the King and overlord Yagbonwura Bikunto Jewu Soale I, and all other subjects under his control, had interfered.

The Regional Minister, Regional Chairman of the NPP, MDCES, and a few Members of Parliament from the Region have previously spoken before.

“The NPP is therefore astonished and surprised when the Police invaded the area in a similar manner as before in spite of all these. The brutalities and “Rambo-style” detentions inflicted on our people as stated are barbaric and uncivilized in today’s world. We categorically reject the same.

The statement read: “Such degrading and inhumane actions of the police should not be taken against the good people of Daboya who have demonstrated decency and respect for the rule of law.”

The party urged the IGP and other well-intentioned Ghanaians to take urgent action to restore tranquility in that region.

It stated that residents of the region should be concerned about the National Security and Police CID’s intimidating deployment, especially when there isn’t a conflict in Daboya.

“This era’s cruelty is unacceptable and needs to end. In these challenging times, the wonderful people of Wasipe and the North Gonja District have the support of the Savannah Regional NPP, the statement continued.
