A broad general amnesty for all members currently serving suspensions or facing disciplinary proceedings has been declared by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which the party says is an attempt to strengthen internal unity before important major events.

The announcement was sent to regional and constituency executives after a National Council emergency meeting on July 25, 2025, and was signed by Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, the Acting National Chairman, in a circular released from the party’s headquarters.

“This measure reflects the Party’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity, and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead,” Mr. Buttey stated.

All suspensions are immediately lifted, and any pending disciplinary hearings involving impacted members are suspended as a result of the directive.

To be reinstated, those who have forfeited their membership must formally reapply to the national secretariat.

“Upon reinstatement, such members shall remain ineligible to contest any internal party election until a mandatory two-year period has elapsed,” the circular specified.

The Acting National Chairman further emphasized the need of closely adhering to the party’s constitution and warned all party executives at the regional, constituency, and polling station levels against arbitrary and unilateral suspensions.

The party called for complete compliance from all executives and members, expressing hope that the direction would encourage a renewed dedication among the rank and file.
