One Year On – Departed 8: Government has announced a number of events to commemorate the first anniversary of the devastating helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
To commemorate the first anniversary of the sad helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which lost the lives of eight notable national patriots, the government has announced a number of events.
The goal of the commemoration event is to provide support for their families while honouring their unselfish service and sacrifice.

Official presentation of the State’s support to the families of the Departed 8.
The Dr Edward Omane Boamah Memorial Lecture on 4 August 2026.
A National Inter-Faith Memorial Service on 6 August 2026.
The unveiling of a memorial cenotaph.
A nationwide “Service to the Soul” Blood Donation Drive on 7 August 2026.
As a lasting homage to the memory and legacy of the Departed 8, the government asks the general public, civil society organisations, religious institutions, media outlets, and well-wishers to take part in the remembrance activities, especially the nationwide blood donation exercise.
