The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to deliver a full report on the Bawku peace mediation to President John Dramani Mahama today, December 16, as part of continued efforts to ensure long-term stability in the region.
President Mahama nominated Otumfuo earlier in 2025 to lead mediation efforts aimed at resolving the decades-long chieftaincy feud that has afflicted the Bawku municipality.
The mediation process began in April, with the Asantehene meeting separately with leaders and representatives of the warring factions to create the framework for communication and confidence-building.
Although the talks experienced a brief hiatus, they restarted in May 2025 and have since worked to alleviate tensions, contributing to a period of relative quiet in the traditionally turbulent area.
It is anticipated that the report that will be sent to the President would emphasise the achievements thus far, list the main obstacles, and provide suggestions to direct the next stage of government action in order to bring about lasting peace in Bawku.
As mediation attempts continue, the Ghana Armed Forces report that security presence in the region has been strengthened to uphold law and order.
