The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has called for improved mortuary facilities, increased public education on blood donation, and stronger patient confidentiality standards within Ghana’s healthcare system.
The Committee made the recommendations during a meeting with officials from selected District Health Directorates under the Ministry of Health, who appeared before it to respond to issues raised in the 2025 Auditor-General’s Reports.
During the proceedings, the PAC highlighted concerns about the condition of mortuaries, the need to promote voluntary blood donation, and the importance of maintaining privacy and confidentiality in the relationship between nurses and patients.
The Committee stressed that improving mortuary conditions is essential to maintaining proper healthcare standards, protecting public health and ensuring dignified treatment of deceased persons. It also underscored the need for sustained public awareness campaigns to encourage blood donation and help healthcare facilities maintain adequate blood supplies for emergency treatment, surgeries and other medical procedures.

On patient confidentiality, the PAC called for stronger adherence to professional healthcare ethics, urging nurses and other medical personnel to safeguard patients’ personal information and protect their privacy during treatment.
Beyond these healthcare service delivery concerns, the Committee examined several financial and administrative irregularities identified in the Auditor-General’s reports. These included unearned salaries, unserved bonds, unaccounted revenue and outstanding audit findings involving selected district health directorates.
The PAC urged the officials to review the audit observations, submit updated explanations and take concrete steps to address the identified lapses. It further emphasised that audit recommendations must be fully implemented to improve financial accountability, transparency and effective management of public resources in the health sector.
The Committee’s intervention highlights the importance of strengthening healthcare delivery, improving hospital and mortuary infrastructure, promoting blood donation in Ghana and ensuring that public funds are properly managed.
The call also reinforces the need for health authorities to improve administrative oversight and professional standards while addressing financial irregularities to ensure better healthcare services for Ghanaians.
