A briefing on a new support program was held by the Ghanaian Parliament in collaboration with the World Bank and the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom.

In order to increase legislative efficiency and supervision, the initiative intends to strengthen the economic and financial governance capabilities of members of parliament and their staff.

The project was presented by World Bank and FCD officials with the topic “Building the Capacity of Parliamentarians for Economic and Financial Governance.”

They underlined the necessity of improving MPs’ comprehension of legislative processes and the ongoing evolution of parliamentary procedures in order to guarantee accountability and well-informed decision-making.

Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Clerk to Parliament, praised the project, pointing out that it will increase Parliament’s capacity to carry out its constitutional responsibilities and broaden its interaction with development partners.

He underlined that a redesigned Parliament will be more capable of carrying out its monitoring and legislative duties.

The World Bank and FCDO’s assistance was praised by Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Kwaku Ricketts-Hagan and Deputy Minority Leader Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, who described the project as impactful and timely.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, stated in his concluding remarks that the current Parliament is made up of highly educated members who serve as the chairs of important committees.

He called on committee leaders to fully own the project and see to its successful execution in order to improve Parliament’s overall performance.

On June 18, 2025, in Parliament House, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Alban S. K. Bagbin will lead the project’s formal debut.
