Plans for a state-led acquisition of all oil exploration interests have been revealed by the Energy Ministry.

Plans to acquire all of Springfield E&P’s interests in the West Cape Three Points Block 2 (WCTP2) have been revealed by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, directed by John Jinapor.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the takeover would be carried out via the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the country’s oil corporation.

The Ministry of Energy claims that the takeover decision is a component of the government’s larger plan to protect the country’s petroleum assets, maximise upstream output, and make sure that important resources are not left stranded because of protracted operational or commercial bottlenecks, which Springfield E&P is currently experiencing.
