The Ghana Police Service arrested the alleged gang leader and one other suspect in connection with the robbery incident that killed a Berekum Chelsea footballer.
Police said that the arrests came after continued intelligence-led efforts to identify the perpetrators of the act, which stunned the football community and the country as a whole.
One of the suspects was hurt during the operation during a gunfight with police intelligence units.
Since then, the wounded suspect has been sent to a hospital, where he is being treated while being watched over by police.

On Sunday, April 12, 2026, suspected armed robbers attacked Berekum Chelsea players and officials on the Goaso–Bibiani road near Ahyiresu in the Ahafo Region.
The event happened on the way back from Berekum Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to FC Samartex 1996 at Dun’s Park in Samreboi on Matchday 29 of the Ghana Premier League.
The motorist tried to flee from six armed guys, three of whom had pump-action pistols, by veering off the road and into a shrubbery, according to authorities.
Football player Dominic Frimpong, one of the passengers, was shot during the assault and sent to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he subsequently passed away.
George Owusu Afriyie, 52, was another victim who lost GH¢4,500.
Two expended BB cartridges were recovered from the scene to support investigations, according to the police.
According to the police, they are still dedicated to making sure that everyone involved is apprehended and prosecuted.
