Ballot papers recalled by the Electoral Commission (EC) from the Eastern and Western Regions have been destroyed under the supervision of the Ghana Police Service and the Eastern Regional Elections Security Taskforce.

Following the EC’s decision to remove and discard the ballot papers because of flaws and faults, the exercise was held on Tuesday morning.

As Ghanaians get ready to cast their ballots in the general elections on Saturday, December 7, 2024, the demolition was intended to protect the electoral process’s security and integrity.

Strict security procedures were followed during the demolition process, which was observed by Electoral Commission officials, political party representatives, and election observers.

A representative from the Eastern Regional Elections Security Taskforce spoke at the occasion and underlined how crucial the exercise is to preserving public confidence in the voting process.

“The destruction of these recalled ballot papers is a critical step in ensuring that only valid materials are used during the elections.”

“This demonstrates our collective commitment to a free, fair, and transparent process,” the representative stated.

Major political party representatives said they were happy with the process and praised the security services and the Electoral Commission for being transparent.

The public has been reassured by the Electoral Commission that every effort is being made to guarantee the polls go smoothly.

This involves replacing the damaged ballots with fresh ones, which have already been sent to the impacted areas.
