A 15-year-old Nigerian girl who had been trafficked from her own country to Tarkwa, Ghana, and coerced into sexual exploitation has been saved by the Western Central Regional Police.
Police stated in a press release dated November 5, 2025, that the Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) was responsible for the rescue effort.
The breakthrough, according to the police, occurred after Ogbonno Onuigbo, the victim’s father, reported his daughter missing in Nigeria in October 2025. On October 24, 2025, his distressed daughter called him and told him she had been abused after being smuggled to Ghana.
On Monday, November 3, 2025, Joy Ogbonna, 25, was taken into custody at Aboso, close to Tarkwa, following a police investigation prompted by this report.
A terrifying series of incidents is described in police findings. According to the inquiry, Golden Blessing, a woman who is now at large, first enticed the victim from Enugu, Nigeria, to Lagos.
The girl was allegedly promised a cleaning job by the suspect. Rather, she was given to Joy Ogbonna, who took her to Tarkwa, Ghana.
When the victim arrived, the suspect forced her into prostitution, locked her in a room, and stole all of the money she made.
The victim’s misery only came to an end when a sympathetic bystander helped her get in touch with her father. The cops were able to save her as a direct result of this important deed.
The victim is five weeks pregnant, according to a medical examination conducted after her rescue.
Joy Ogbonna, the suspect, is being held by the police and is anticipated to be charged in court shortly.
Additionally, the police have stepped up their efforts to apprehend Golden Blessing, her accomplice, who is said to have escaped to Nigeria.
In a statement, the Western Central Regional Police Command praised the public for their assistance and prompt action.
The command reiterated its steadfast dedication to preventing human trafficking and shielding vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
