With President Mahama cutting sod to begin construction under the government’s flagship “Big Push” Initiative, Ghanaian farmers and traders along the Wenchi-Bole-Wa Road would soon receive relief.

In the northwest of Ghana, this road corridor is an important commercial route. More over 60% of the nation’s agro-freight, including maize, yam, millet, and cashew, passes through it. It also transports animals and grain.

By connecting the Bono, Savannah, and Upper West Regions, the Wenchi-Bole-Wa Road immediately links Ghana to the border with Burkina Faso and promotes international trade. During construction, 1,800 direct jobs and 4,500 indirect jobs are anticipated.

The project will reduce vehicle running expenses by 30%, reduce accident rates by 45%, and reduce travel time from six hours to less than three hours when it is finished in 24 months.

To speed up the construction, the 195 km Wenchi-Wa portion is split into seven concurrent lots. Road safety features and road pavement reconstruction to asphaltic surfacing are among the tasks at hand.

Additionally, town roads in Tinga, Banda Nkwanta, and Bamboi will be upgraded.

“We are starting with roads that connect regional and district capitals. After that, we will focus on many other roads. This is just the beginning, not the end,” President Mahama said. President Mahama stated,

Within 24 months of the Big Push Initiative’s commencement, he said, Ghanaians will have “the best roads in West Africa.”

“This government will not tolerate delays or shoddy work. We demand the highest standards and quality,” he stressed.
