To break up the duopoly in the nation’s governance structure, the Progressive People’s Party has started discussions with other Nkrumah political parties and like-minded organizations. The goal is to create a political organization that is alternative, strong, and formidable.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP), national executive members of the People’s National Convention, and various pressure organizations operating in the political party space to run in the general election of 2024 are the other political parties involved in discussions to establish the alliance.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic yesterday in Accra, Nana Ofori Owusu, the national chairman of the PPP, said that talks to build such coalition have been ongoing for a year.

He claimed that the main topic of conversation had been how to unite and create the alliance, which would serve as a “special purpose vehicle” to run in the general election in 2024.

We have produced documents, which all the parties to the debate will submit to their respective higher decision-making authorities for assessment and adoption, according to Nana Owusu.

According to the PPP National Chairman, the decision was made in response to studies showing that the public yearned for a powerful and formidable alternative to end “the 28-year duopoly in our government system.”

According to him, the decision to establish a political group capable of upending the duopoly resulted from the widespread support the discussions had received from the populace, which showed that they were tired of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress, the two major political parties, mismanaging the nation’s economy (NDC).

The current economic suffering Ghanaians are experiencing, according to Nana Owusu, has increased calls for a strong alternative political party to break the duopoly. He claimed, “Our economy has been broken.”

He said, “We hear the cries of the people asking us to stand up which they are willing to support to bring that alternative leadership to tackle the current challenges in our country.

Nana Owusu predicted that alternative political organizations will materialize ahead of the general election in 2024 in order to rescue Ghana from its economic gloom and improve conditions for all citizens.

This time, he continued, “we have a document that all the participants in the discussion will ratify in order to create an alternative political organization capable of seizing political power to enhance the quality of life for the populace.”

“We will then roll out information in respect to the new name, emblem, motto and other areas of collaboration of that political organization that will be advantageous to all,” Owusu continued. “After the document is adopted by the respective parties.
