President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to make an official trip to France, where he will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and take part in high-level global health discussions.

The visit, which is set for Monday, April 6, 2026, at President Macron’s request, will see Mr. Mahama attend the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon before heading to Paris for official engagements, according to a statement from the Presidency.

President Mahama is anticipated to take center stage during the summit, co-chairing the high-level segment alongside President Macron.

Heads of state, health ministers, and international experts will convene to discuss important topics pertaining to global health systems, food sustainability, and coordinated responses to new health risks.

During the summit, the President will give two keynote speeches.

The first will be given at a session co-chaired by World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and President Macron, with a focus on global health architecture. Reforms to global health systems and the issuance of a political declaration aimed at bolstering international collaboration are anticipated to be the main topics of discussion at that meeting.

He is anticipated to present Ghana’s stance and promises on global health security in his second speech, which will be given at the start of the high-level segment for heads of state.

President Mahama will engage in a number of diplomatic activities in Paris after the summit, including a bilateral meeting with President Macron on Wednesday, April 8, at the Élysée Palace.

Deepening Ghana-France relations is anticipated to be the main goal of the negotiations, which will cover topics including trade, investment, health, education, and regional security.

In an attempt to improve parliamentary and institutional links between the two nations, President Mahama will also visit Gérard Larcher at the French Senate prior to the bilateral meeting.

The tour emphasises Ghana’s increasing participation in international policy debates, especially in the field of health diplomacy, and the government’s attempts to establish the nation as a major participant in international cooperation projects.

After fulfilling his obligations in Paris, President Mahama is anticipated to return to Accra.
