The Majority Leader and the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament have been directed by President John Dramani Mahama to withdraw a Private Member’s Bill that aims to overturn the legislation creating the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The directive comes after the President openly backed measures to fortify the OSP as part of Ghana’s battle against corruption during a meeting with the National Peace Council on Wednesday.
President Mahama believes the OSP is still an essential organization that should be strengthened rather than destroyed.
He also encouraged the office to step up its efforts to boost public trust and deal immediately with corruption charges, as was its original goal.
