Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the member of parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency in the Greater Accra Region and the daughter of the late former president Jerry John Rawlings, has been urged by President John Dramani Mahama to get in touch with him for a conversation.
Following President Mahama’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, 2025, the proposal was made.
He greeted Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and especially asked her to summon him during the post-speech niceties with the MPs.
The proposal was made after Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin chastised the President for not fulfilling his pledge to nominate more women to his Cabinet, although it is unclear why.
Afenyo-Markin contended that only two of the 19 Cabinet ministers, or 10% of the total, were selected women, in spite of Mahama’s promise to provide women with 30% of Cabinet positions.
He asserted that despite their commitment and skill, competent women in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), like Helen Ntorsu and Zanetor Rawlings, had been passed over for important positions.
