Profiles of the ten regional ministers-designate that President Mahama has nominated

Ten individuals have been nominated by President John Mahama as regional ministers; their ratification by Parliament is still pending.

The ten nominees, three of whom are women, are included in the initial group of regional ministerial appointments.

Below are their profiles:

Oti Region

A business executive and former member of parliament for the Akan Constituency is Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong. At the moment, he is the Oti Region’s NDC Regional Chairman. He graduated from the University of Cape Coast with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

Savannah Region

Mr. Salisu Be-Awuribe is a lawyer, law lecturer, development expert, and valuation professional. In the past, he was the Central Gonja District’s District Chief Executive. He graduated with a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Science in Land Economy from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, a Master of Law from the University of Ghana, and a Professional Qualifying Certificate in Law from the Ghana School of Law.

Upper East Region

Mr. Akamugri Donatus Atanga graduated from the University of Education Winneba with a Bachelor of Education degree in Social Studies and Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Human Rights. He has previously held the positions of Presiding Member of the Bongo District Assembly and Coordinator of the National School Feeding Program.

Northern Region

Mr. Ali Adolf John is a professional in education who has worked for the Ghana Education Service as a desk officer, tutor, and circuit supervisor. He graduated from the University of Education, Winneba, with a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Technology. At the moment, he serves as the NDC’s Northern Regional Chairman.

North East Region

Mr. Ibrahim Tia is a professional in public health finance and local government who specializes in public relations, systems management, and health funding. His work with the National Health Insurance Scheme, where he progressed from District Manager to Deputy Regional Manager for the Northern Regional Office of the NHIA, is one example of his vast experience. He has a Mini MBA in Project Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies, and a Bachelor of Science in Information and Communication Technology. Since 2019, Mr. Ibrahim Tia has been the North East Region’s NDC Regional Secretary.

Ahafo Region

Madam Charity Gardiner has nearly ten years of experience as a human resource professional and businesswoman. She has a solid background in humanitarian and non-profit work, and she is particularly interested in the empowerment and education of girls. She has a human resource management bachelor’s and master’s degree.

Ashanti Region

A youth leader and medical practitioner with experience in public service, governance, and healthcare is Dr. Frank Amoakohene. He graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, the University of Development Studies with a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science, and the Accra Business School with an MBA. At the moment, he serves as the NDC’s Ashanti Regional Secretary.

Eastern Region

A renowned leader with extensive expertise in community development, education, and administration is Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey. She graduated from the University of Professional Studies in Accra with an MPhil in Leadership. Having held the positions of Deputy Eastern Regional Women Organiser of the NDC and Presiding Member of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, she has demonstrated a remarkable track record in local governance. Along with being a seasoned educator and supporter of women’s empowerment, she is dedicated to promoting inclusive governance and local development. At the University of Ghana, she is presently working on a PhD in migration.

Volta Region

Mr. James Gunu has extensive experience working in the media. A Master of Arts in Development Communication, a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, and a Master of Arts in Local Government Administration and Organization are among his degrees. Mr. Gunu was Akatsi’s previous MCE.

Greater Accra Region

The representative for the Shai-Osudoku constituency is Madam Linda Ocloo. She graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Science in Administration with a Banking and Finance concentration.
