In a remarkable healthcare initiative, the Upper West Regional Hospital’s Department of Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) conducted a successful screening event at the Smart Star Academy, a private school located at Dobile Presbyterian Area in the Wa municipality on June 27-28th, 2024.
About 386 pupils were meticulously screened for Ear, Nose and Throat health, with 212 cases promptly identified and scheduled for treatment.
During the screening, a range of ENT conditions were detected, including impacted wax, foreign bodies in the ear, and cases of tonsillitis. Some were found with beads
and insects in their ears.

The dedicated medical team swiftly took action by booking these critical cases for further investigation and treatment, underscoring the hospital’s commitment to providing timely healthcare interventions.
The screening event not only served as a platform for early detection and intervention but also aimed to educate students on the importance of proper ENT health practices.
The hospital’s outreach efforts have been met with praise and appreciation from parents, school staff, and the broader community.
This proactive initiative by the Upper West Regional Hospital highlights the significance of preventive healthcare measures and Schools/community engagement in ensuring the well-being of individuals, especially young students.
It’s our hope to extend this Special services to other schools in the coming Days.
