Path and InSupply Health have engaged the Ghana Ministry of Health over plans to strengthen the country’s healthcare supply chain for maternal and newborn health commodities and essential medical supplies.
The organisations met with officials of the Ministry of Health to introduce the proposed INSPIRE project, an initiative aimed at improving the availability and distribution of critical maternal and newborn healthcare commodities across Ghana.
During the engagement, Path and InSupply Health sought the Ministry’s input on existing healthcare supply chain challenges, gaps and priorities to help shape the development and implementation of the proposed project.
The Ministry highlighted several challenges affecting the effective supply of essential healthcare commodities, including data management, demand forecasting, procurement, transportation and sustainable healthcare financing.
Officials stressed the need for interventions that can address these challenges and improve the efficiency of Ghana’s health commodity supply chain. They noted that the Ministry’s contribution would be important in ensuring that the INSPIRE project aligns with existing national healthcare systems, policies and priorities.
The Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, welcomed the proposed initiative and encouraged Path and InSupply Health to focus on Ghana’s most pressing healthcare needs.
She particularly emphasised the importance of improving access to essential maternal and newborn health commodities and medical equipment at the primary healthcare level.
According to the Deputy Minister, ensuring that health facilities have the necessary medicines, equipment and supplies is critical to improving maternal and newborn healthcare outcomes and reducing maternal mortality in Ghana.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare supply chain, improve access to essential medical commodities and support better health outcomes for mothers and newborns, particularly at the primary healthcare level.
