President John Dramani Mahama today met with global health leaders, Ms Winnie Byanyima (UNAIDS Executive Director) and Ms Joy Phumaphi (ALMA Executive Secretary), for high-level discussions about improving public health in Africa.

The Accra Reset, President Mahama’s bold vision for an Africa that produces its own vaccines, creates resilient health systems, and transitions from assistance dependency to true self-reliance, was central to the conversation.

The President also announced significant progress on Ghana’s Free Primary Health treatment programme, which now provides free basic treatment to all Ghanaians at CHPS compounds and polyclinics, with no insurance card necessary, as we move closer to Universal Health Coverage.

Ms. Byanyima applauded President Mahama’s work in promoting health sovereignty in Ghana, Africa, and the Global South.

This comes as Accra hosts the African Union’s Extraordinary Summit on Health, which brings African leaders together to create a bold path toward justice, equity, and better health outcomes for everyone.
