The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also referred to as the LGBTQ bill, has been reintroduced in Parliament for consideration, according to Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the Central Region’s Member of Parliament for the Assin South Constituency.
Under former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government, the measure, which aims to outlaw LGBTQ activities and make their funding, advocacy, and promotion illegal, was approved by the 8th Parliament but failed to obtain presidential assent.
After the present Parliament passes the bill, Mr. Ntim Fordjour encouraged President John Dramani Mahama to sign it into law.
“Myself, Sam George, Hon Bedzrah, Hon Alhassan Tampuli, Hon Abdul Kabiru, and Hon Ekow Vincent—we have reintroduced the bill, and all efforts are being made to ensure its speedy passage so that the President can assent to it. It has already been admitted and received, so the legislative process will soon be set in motion,” he said.
He underlined that there won’t likely be any major delays in Parliament because the law is unaltered.
“The chiefs, imams, clergymen, and the coalition that supported the bill previously are still firmly behind it. Additionally, the Speaker of Parliament supports it, so we expect a swift passage,” he continued.
In an interview with Citi News on Thursday, February 27, he revealed this information.
