The British High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Harriet Thompson, and her staff met with Minister of Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to talk about Ghana’s fiscal policies, economic prospects, and the major social initiatives included in the 2025 budget.
Throughout the talks, Dr. Forson underscored the government’s commitment to social protection measures to help the most disadvantaged while acknowledging Ghana’s economic struggles.
Key budgetary allocations were noted by him, such as the School Feeding Program’s funding increase from 1 cedi to 2 cedis, with the expectation of future increases.

Furthermore, the government has uncapped statutory charges like the NHIS Levy and GETFund and is increasing Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) payments, giving these organizations greater access to resources to efficiently carry out their duties.
Ghana’s forward-thinking budget was praised by High Commissioner Harriet Thompson, who called it a significant turning point in the nation’s economic recovery.
Along with expressing interest in Ghana’s fiscal initiatives, she reaffirmed the UK’s readiness to assist Ghana in establishing a Climate Finance Division, which will be essential to promoting sustainable economic growth.
With both countries dedicated to strengthening economic resilience, growing social safety nets, and promoting climate finance measures, the meeting confirmed Ghana and the UK’s solid alliance.
