The Ministry of Interior has strongly cautioned private security companies not to wear unapproved uniforms, emphasizing the value of closely following guidelines.
This announcement comes after two people were detained on Friday, June 14, for allegedly breaking laws pertaining to Ghanaian private security companies.
“The individuals were found wearing unprescribed uniforms similar to the Military uniform, contrary to the regulations outlined in the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (LI.1571) and the Police Service Organisations (Amendment) Regulations, 1994 (L.I.1579),” stated Chief Director for the Interior Minister. Doreen P. Annan.
The Ministry promised that the relevant penalties will be imposed on the corporation, even though bail was granted to the accused officers. It restated the authorized private security personnel outfits, which consist of:
White long/short sleeve shirts over ash khaki trousers with white stripes on both sides.
Cream long/short sleeve shirts over brown khaki trousers with cream stripes on both sides.
Mauve long/short sleeve shirts over maroon trousers with mauve stripes on both sides.
Yellow shirts with ash/grey reflectors across the back and front over brown khaki trousers (specifically for the Mines and Oil fields).
To guarantee adherence to these rules, the Ministry started a national sensitization and monitoring campaign in 2023. Since then, it has kept a careful eye on private security firms to make sure compliance.
The Ministry emphasized that it will not budge on laws intended to protect the safety and security of all Ghanaians, even while it acknowledges the critical role private security organizations play in bolstering the country’s official security agencies.
“Otherwise, the Police will arrest and act against any organisation or individuals who fail to comply with the regulations and face the law,” the Ministry warned.
“The Ministry of the Interior will continue to create a safe and secure environment for all Ghanaians and is committed to working with the private security industry to achieve this goal,” the statement concluded.
