Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader, has denied involvement in a plot to make Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer.
His denial comes in response to claims that he is hatched such a conspiracy along with President Nana Akufo-Addo, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, and former General Secretary, John Boadu.
The purported conspiracy was exposed in an audiotape that was broadcast on Kumasi’s Suame-based Sompa FM on Friday, September 8, 2023. The Vice President, HE Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was not to be forced upon the NPP, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu claimed in a statement. “I have not been involved in any interview, discussion, or conversation in which the statements contained in the clip have been made by me.”
Any basic study of the audio recording, he claimed, would show that the voice that is present and that a commentator in the same clip is claiming to be mine is not mine.
The video “is a rather infantile attempt to not only bring my reputation into disrepute but to sow seeds of discord in the NPP,” he asserted of it. “In the interim, Sompa FM is required to retract its statement and issue an apology within 48 hours; otherwise, I reserve the right to seek independent legal counsel.”
