The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally distanced itself from recent remarks made against Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams by Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the party’s Bono regional chairman.

The NPP characterized Mr. Baffoe’s comments during a media appearance on Ohia TV as “unfortunate and unprovoked” in a statement signed by the party’s general secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, and insisted that they do not represent the party’s official stance or beliefs.

“The New Patriotic Party holds religious leadership in high regard and recognises the immense contributions of Archbishop Duncan-Williams and the broader religious community to national development, peace, and moral guidance,” the statement read.

The public, especially the Christian community, has reacted negatively to Mr. Baffoe’s remarks, which went viral on social media.

His remarks were seen by many as a clear and demeaning assault on one of the most powerful religious figures in the nation.

Although the NPP reiterated its support for free speech, it emphasized that these rights must be used responsibly and with decency.

“As a democratic and inclusive political tradition, we uphold the freedom of expression of our members, but we also expect such freedom to be exercised with utmost responsibility, respect, and decorum,” Kodua stated.

The party asked the public to consider Mr. Baffoe’s comments to be personal views rather than a representation of the party’s position. “The public, particularly the Christian community, is urged to treat Mr. Baffoe’s personal opinions as wholly his own and not connected to the New Patriotic Party.”
