Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, has affirmed that the dualisation of the Tema Community 25-Dawhenya road will be finished within two years.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, November 24, the Minister described the project’s restructured approach and underlined the government’s commitment to improving the critical transportation corridor.

Mr Agbodza noted that the first phase of the project was delayed due to a disruption in the commercial credit approved by Parliament during Ghana’s debt restructuring process.

“That project was awarded through a commercial loan by Parliament. Unfortunately, that fell victim to the debt restructuring by a British company, which was supposed to be doing Tranche 1,” he maintained.

The government changed its plans for the second phase after the first finance deal fell through.

“They were supposed to do Tranche 2 if Tranche 1 went well, but because that stalled, we asked that Tranche 2 be carried as a brand-new Big Push project, which First Sky is working on,” he continued.

The Minister clarified the project’s structure by pointing out that Tranche 2 involves enlarging the main roadway from Community 25 to the Central University, while Tranche 1 concentrates on building service roads and interchanges.

The main carriageway is called Tranche 2. “The service road by the side and the interchanges is supposed to be Tranche 1,” he stated.

He also revealed that First Sky Construction has been allocated 24 months to finish the expansion after being awarded the Tranche 2 contract.

Mr. Agbodza emphasized that drivers who depend on the stretch on a daily basis would greatly benefit from the dualization.

When completed, the improved road is anticipated to increase overall mobility along one of the busiest and fastest-growing corridors in the Greater Accra Region, reduce chronic traffic congestion, and speed up travel times.
