Speaking at the Official Launch of the 2023-2029 Strategic Plan of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in Accra, the Hon. Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery assured of Government support and commitment to achieve the objectives of the Plan for effective Border Security Management in the country.
The Minister expressed his optimism that the GIS seven-year Strategic Plan which aims at guiding GIS operations is in the right direction and that the Plan clearly outlined the strategies the Service would adopt in contributing to the realisation of its mandate in the next seven years.
Hon. Ambrose Dery noted that the 2023-2029 Strategic Plan revolves around four key components, namely; Border Management, Transnational Crime Prevention, Enforcement, and Organisational Drivers each of which clearly spelt out strategies to facilitate the transformational agenda of becoming a model Immigration Service for Migration Management and the Security of Ghana.
He explained that the 2018 – 2022 Strategic Plan saw improvement and expansion of infrastructure, capacity building, recruitments and capacity building of Officers at the Ghana Immigration Service.
The Minister urged stakeholders in the migration management space to come on board to support the implementation of activities outlined in the Strategic Plan for better management of migration in Ghana and globally.
The 7 year Strategic Plan is expected to move the Service towards becoming a model organisation for Migration Management and the Security of Ghana. It would also provide a roadmap for the Ghana Immigration Service to operate an efficient, fair and firm immigration system that meets the social and economic needs of the country.
The Plan also provide an effective monitoring and evaluation system which will guide in gauging the performance of the Ghana Immigration Service and the impact of the implementation of the Plan.
The Danish Ambassador to Ghana, H. E Tom Nørring reaffirmed the commitment of the Danish Government to supporting the Ghana Immigration Service in achieving its mandate as well as strengthening the nation’s borders.
The Plan was developed under the Strengthening Border and Migration Management in Ghana being implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development with funding from the Government of Denmark.
