President John Dramani Mahama has said that, as part of his government’s stepped-up environmental protection efforts, nine forest reserves have been recovered from illegal mining.
While degraded areas are being recovered and repaired, the president told reporters at the Jubilee House that hundreds of excavators, water pumps, and other pieces of equipment have been seized as part of the operation.
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to maintain Ghana’s natural resources for future generations by strengthening laws, deploying additional staff to protect river bodies, and stopping mining in protected regions.
Nevertheless, President Mahama disclosed that appropriate steps have been taken to recover two of the recovered forest areas that had returned to illegal miners.
