Ghanaian travellers can now again obtain five-year multiple-entry visas and other improved consular privileges after the United States formally withdrew the visa limitations it placed on Ghana earlier this year.
During a bilateral discussion earlier today, Friday, September 26, 2025, on the margins of the UN General Assembly, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker directly informed Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, of this development.
Hon. Ablakwa is happy to announce that this favourable outcome for Ghanaian citizens is the consequence of months of consistent, high-level diplomatic engagement.

Background
Recall that the United States restricted Ghana and a number of other nations’ visas to a maximum of three-month single-entry visas in July of this year.
The Trump Administration said at the time that the actions were a reaction to ongoing visa overstays, especially among students from Ghana.
Through increased consular services, Ghanaians will once again have more mobility and opportunity thanks to the reversal of these restrictions, which signifies a renewed strengthening of connections between Ghana and the US.
A $250 visa integrity fee was imposed on Ghanaians seeking U.S. non-immigrant visas, including those for tourists, students, exchange students, and workers, as a result of a new rule implemented by the US government.
If additional costs like documentation, travel, and appointment fees are not included, this new price brings the overall cost of a Ghanaian’s U.S. visa application to around $500.
